December 30, 2013 at 7:10 AM ET – When some families edit their home movies into a montage, the common choice is typically a pop song along the lines of “Call Me Maybe.” But some people, such as Robby Barnett of Chicago, decide to go a bit against the grain when editing family vacation videos.
Barnett, a video editor at Brella Productions in Evanston, chose the King Louie rap track “Living Life” as the backdrop to his family’s vacation footage shot in Isla Mujeres, Mexico. Watch the interesting mashup of a vacation in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico, and 2012 rap track by Chicago music artist King Louie:

December 25, 2013 at 5:30 AM ET – Dubbing a video with unrelated music isn’t anything new, but then again, the video uploader usually had the dub planned all along. Such isn’t the case with a surprisingly beautiful dub of a 1989 Prince video, which seemed to work completely by accident.
In 2011, Youtube user Manolo Martinez uploaded the official video for Batdance by recording artist Prince. The song was a #1 hit in 1989, the year that it appeared on the soundtrack for the Tim Burton filmBatman. The video, shot by Purple Rain director Albert Magnoli, featured dancers dressed as Batman, the Joker and Vicki Vale.
It wasn’t long before Youtube contacted Martinez to let him know that there were copyright issues related to the song featured in his uploaded music video. Rather than remove the video, Martinez simply chose to swap out the audio. His choice? Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor (“Quasi una fantasia”), better known as Moonlight Sonata by composer Ludwig van Beethoven. The mashup of the video’s dark visuals and the haunting 1801 piano sonata turned out to be an odd fit. Watch the video below to see what happens when you combine a dramatic 80’s pop video with a beautiful piano sonata composed almost 200 years before:
